Headteacher’s Welcome

Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome to a new term! It’s a pleasure to introduce myself as your new Headteacher at Longdean School. I have had a thoroughly enjoyable first week getting to know the Longdean community and have been warmly welcomed by all. Many students have taken the time to come and introduce themselves to me personally, the students have made a fantastic first impression. On Friday (Year 7) and Monday (Years 8-13) I held assemblies to introduce myself and I shared what the students can expect from me as their Headteacher: I will ensure that students get the grades that they need and are capable of. I will ensure students are ready to flourish and compete with the best in the next stage of their learning journey. I will maintain a safe and happy school where all have a strong sense of belonging. I then shared what I expect of Longdean students: Work hard! Be nice! Take responsibility. Be great role models. Please do speak with the students at home about these messages, to reinforce a positive start to a new academic year with a new Headteacher. I have a few updates and notices to share as we begin a new term: Blazers in Years 7-11: We need our students to wear their blazers around school every day (unless it is a PE day or they have an exemption). Many students wear a black jumper; these are an optional extra layer, but blazers are compulsory. Can I ask that you double check that students are bringing their blazers every day, and remind them that they must be worn consistently around the school building. Please contact your child’s form tutor if there are any issues with purchasing a blazer. IPADs: We will be rolling out IPADs to Year 7 and Year 8 in October. This has been slightly delayed due to changes in multiple IT systems in the school. Separate communications will be coming to Year 7 and Year 8 parents regarding outstanding payments for IPADs and the planned roll out of these devices. Queries/questions/concerns: Please direct any questions or concerns of a pastoral nature to Form Tutors in the first instance. If they can’t help, they will ensure your request is sent to the appropriate person in school. Finally, I would like to thank you all for bearing with us as we settle into so many IT developments in school. It has been challenging for staff, and I know some families have experienced issues with payments and systems. I apologise for any stress that this may have caused your family. I hope you have a restful weekend and I look forward to getting to know you all over the weeks, months and years to come. Ruth Georgiades Headteacher
