Absence from School
Reporting an Absence
If your child is unwell or unable to attend school, parents are encouraged to report the absence through the MyChildAtSchool App first, reporting the absence on each day the child is absent. There is no need to contact the school unless there is an issue with reporting it on the app.
If contacting the school is required, please make contact on each day your child is absent by email on attendance@longdean.herts.sch.uk. State your child’s full name, year group and reason for absence. If there are any issues with this please call 01442 217277 selecting option 1 by 9am.
Medical Appointments
For medical appointments, please email attendance@longdean.herts.sch.uk with plenty of notice.
Unauthorised Absence
If we do not hear from you, your child’s absence will be recorded as unauthorised. If you are unable to contact us by phone or email then please send a note in with your child to hand to Student Services upon their return. We will request medical verification or evidence if your child is absent from school for five consecutive days or more.

Medical Information
Students at Longdean School with medical conditions will be properly supported so that they have full access to education, including school trips and physical education.
The Longdean Local Governors will ensure that arrangements are in place to support students at school with medical conditions and that parents and health care professional are consulted to ensure that the needs of students are properly understood and effectively supported.
Please ensure that you complete the pre-admission forms in Applicaa in detail and that you record all the required medical information for your child.
If required, an appointment can be arranged for you to talk to our school matron to discuss your child’s requirements further.
