Uniform
At Longdean, school uniform plays a key role in promoting pride, self-confidence and a feeling of belonging to the school community. These factors contribute to students’ wellbeing and remove the pressures of deciding what to wear and added stress of meeting the fashion expectations of their peers.
Longdean School Uniform
All items of uniform are available from Stevensons.
The following are the only acceptable items of uniform for pupils attending Longdean:
- White shirts with top buttons. Some students have worn blouses or shirts without a top button which means the tie cannot be worn properly.
- Tailored skirts that are knee length. They must not be made of stretchy material or be tight fitting.
- Tailored trousers – not leggings, denim, narrow legged or skin tight. These should also cover the student’s shoes and not be cropped.
- The School blazer with the school badge and not a version of the blazer. This can be purchased through our uniform providers. A school hoodie must not be worn in place of a blazer. WE WILL BE HAVING A CLOSE LOOK AT UNIFORM, IN THE AUTUMN TERM SO PLEASE ENSURE STUDENTS ARE WEARING THEIR BLAZER WHEN WE RETURN IN SEPTEMBER.
- Black v neck sweaters and not cardigans. The black v neck sweater is optional and should not be worn instead of a blazer. Hoodies are not permitted at all on the school site. If a student wears a hoodie to school it must be removed at the gate. Hoodies will be confiscated if seen on the premises.
- A tie (year 7-8) dark blue with a single stripe in the House colour (also available from the school shop)
- A tie (year 9-11) dark blue with a double stripe in the House colour (also available from the school shop)
- White, grey or black socks and not multi-coloured socks.
- Black or natural-coloured tights
- A plain black or blue coat
- School shoes or boots that can be polished, not black trainers, backless shoes, Leather Vans, patent shoes, Leather Converse, uggs or plimsolls
- Some Muslim students choose to wear a headscarf, Jilbab or a Kameez. Students who choose to wear this should select a plain black one and must still wear a shirt, tie and blazer. Some students opt to wear a plain black or navy blue durag in order to protect and preserve textured hair.
- A black hijab
- Coats in colder weather. Coats can be worn in corridors but must be removed in classrooms, canteen and teaching spaces.
All clothes should be labelled with the student’s name.
Uniform orders can be placed with Stevensons either online, over the phone or in-store. Any queries should be raised in the first instance with Stevensons; if a query remains unresolved, parents can then contact Longdean Finance to liaise on their behalf.

School Uniform Rules
- Trainers are required for all drama lessons.
- If worn, make-up must be subtle and natural, for example, no thick eyeliner, eye shadow or nail varnish.
- School shoes should be worn to and from school and in all lessons except PE. Black trainers are not acceptable.
- No jewellery apart from a small stud in each ear and a watch. This means no bracelets or facial piercings, such as tongue, eyebrow, cheek, nose or lip. Students can wear a clear retainer where they have a nose piercing. No other retainers or coverings to conceal piercings are acceptable. We have noticed an increase in the amount of inappropriate jewellery being worn by students. If students wear unacceptable items they risk being removed from lessons and placed in isolation.
- Hair should be one shade, one colour (no bands). Hair must be a colour that appears naturally, for example, blonde or brunette.
- Hair ties, ribbons etc. should be black or navy.
- House badges or school badges only e.g. house captain, form rep or prefect.
- Headphones are only to be seen in classroom spaces if directed by a teacher. They will be confiscated if seen in any other spaces at any other time. This applies to all students in all years. Post 16 students are also allowed to use them in their own study areas or in the canteen during lessons.
