Admissions Policy Consultation 2027

The Longdean Local Governors have recently agreed to propose a change to our admissions criteria for 2027.

Longdean have previously offered a Level 2 course as part of our Sixth Form offer, which includes GCSE retakes in maths and/or English, alongside a Princes Trust qualification.

Local Governors have agreed to consult on our admissions policy for 2027/28 to remove the level 2 offer. We recognise that the level 2 offer at Longdean does not benefit our year 11 students in the same way that our local colleges can, as we are unable to provide the same opportunities in terms of variety of subjects and GCSE retakes. Therefore, we feel it is in the best interest of our year 11 students that we remove this offer and support them in finding alternative further education that better suits their chosen next steps.

Therefore, the proposed change to our policy wording in relation to entry to our Sixth Form is as follows:

  • Entry level 3 is dependent on the student attaining 5 or more GCSE or equivalents at grade 4 or more, including at least a grade 4 in Mathematics and a grade 4 in either English Language or English Literature.

In accordance with the 2021 School Admissions Code guidance, the school is required to consult on the proposed change to our policy. The consultation period will run from 27 October until the 7 December.

We would welcome comments from our local community. Please email responses to admissions@longdean.herts.sch.uk by the closing date of the consultation period at 9am on 7 December 2025.

Please note that the consultation will only consider comments regarding the proposed changes outlined above.

We will not be able to acknowledge or respond individually to comments, however, they will be taken into account when the Local Governing Board meet at the end of the period of consultation to consider any responses.  Following this, the 2027 Admissions Policy will be determined by the deadline date of 28 February 2026
