Extra Curricular Activities

In addition to supporting their academic achievement, at Longdean we offer our students a wide range of enrichment opportunities and extra-curricular activities. We believe this is an important way to help our students develop socially and emotionally, and to build positive relationships with staff and other students, so that they leave us as well-rounded individuals ready to take their place in the world.

In-school clubs and activities

The school runs a number of lunchtime and before and after school activities for students to spark new passions and talents, and promote healthy competition. These range from sports, such as netball, rugby, football and table tennis, to board games, choir and photography, cookery and homework clubs.

Outside school opportunities

Many of our students choose to get involved with award and world-challenge schemes such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award, while others give back to the community through volunteering and charity fundraising. These activities develop resilience and leadership alongside self-awareness and social skills – key qualities valued in any community – as well as to explore new places, try new things and make new friends.

Local Trips and Visits

We also enrich students’ learning and life experiences by organising educational visits to local sites of interest, such as St Albans, and trips abroad to countries including Iceland.

Making Music at Longdean

Our Music Development Plan provides a summary of how our school delivers music education to all our pupils, including opportunities to take part in extra-curricular school shows throughout the year.
