Business Studies

Aims

This one-year GCSE course focuses on business behaviour and the environment in which it takes place. It is recommended that students do not take this subject in Year 9. The course gives students an insight into the world of business and examines a wide range of topics including the structure and organisation of businesses and their interaction with consumers. Other themes studied include setting up a business, marketing, finance, people in business, operations management and types of production. Students learn by working with real businesses and getting a feel for the reality of business life.

 

Half Term 1 Students start unit 1, section 1 of the OCR Business Studies course. This unit is Business Activity and in the first half term, students will learn about what is a business, why are businesses set up, the role of an entrepreneur.
Half term 2 Students will continue with unit 1 which is ‘business activity’ but continue with stakeholders and ownership and finish with growth
Half Term 3 Students will begin alternate units between 2 teachers. This half term, students will look at the role of marketing and market research as well as the role of HR, organisational structures and communication in business.
Half Term 4 Students will continue finance and influences on a business in time for the 2nd set of mock exams
Half Term 5 Students will have their second mock at this point and start off with going through the paper and learning what improvements which they needed to make. Students will then go back to unit 1 and revise what they had learnt before Christmas.
Half Term 6 Students will be working on ‘finance’ and ‘influences on a business’ revision which they learnt post-Christmas. They will have both Business 1 and Business 2 final exams towards the end of this half term.
