AS Level English Language and Literature AQA Spec B (2725)
Unit 1 – Introduction to Language and Literature – Exam

60% of the total AS marks

30 % of the total A level marks

Exam (1 hour, 30mins) 1 question on an Anthology of thematically connected texts and 1 question on unseen texts.

Unit 2 – Raymond Chandler and Edgar Allan Poe - Coursework

40% of the total AS marks

30% of the total A level marks

The Big Sleep by Chandler and Selected Tales of Edgar Allan Poe are studied.  Students then set themselves an analytical comparative essay on a set theme.  There is also a creative task to complete.

AS Level English Literature AQA Spec B (2745)

Unit 1 – Aspects of Narrative – Exam – 2 hours

60% of the total AS mark

30% of the total A level mark

2  novels post 1990 and 2 poets 1800-1945 are studied.

Unit 2 – Dramatic genres – coursework

40% of the total AS mark

20% of the total A level mark

A portfolio of two pieces of written coursework. (One may be re-creative):

• First piece on an aspect of dramatic/tragic genre with regard to a Shakespeare play. 1200 - 1500 words
• Second piece on an aspect of dramatic/tragic genre with regard to another play. 1200 - 1500 words.
