Year 10

Overview:
 

Students follow a course based upon six-week units of work. These have been designed to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of language and literature and to provide progression towards further study.  This is achieved through:

·        A wide range of reading opportunities,

·        Reading and response to both literary and non-literary texts,

·        Writing for a variety of purposes,

·        Speaking and listening in a range of contexts for a variety of purposes.

In year 10 the focus is on coursework, and all English coursework should be completed in that year.  In year 11 the focus in on the skills required for the English and English Literature examinations.

 

 Year 11

Students will be entered for the GCSE English examination in November of year 11.  The English Literature examination will be taken the following summer.  Students who fail to achieve their target grades can be re-entered for the English examination at that time.
